Mathematics
is fundamental to national prosperity in providing tools for understanding
science, engineering, technology and economics. It is about pattern and
structure, logical analysis, deduction, calculation within these pattern and
structure.
Mathematics
is important in our daily lives. People use a lot of what they were taught in
school without even thinking about it as follows.
1. AREA: Retiling
a flow or seeding a lawn may be done by figuring the size of the area and
amount of supplies needed.
2. PERCENTAGE:
Being able to figure out percentages can come in handy, when faced with store
sales or nutrition labels.
3. FRACTION: Road
signs and recipe books feature fractions that tells us the distance or how much
an ingredient to put in a dish.
4. ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION: Totaling the price of groceries as you shop or calculate
monthly bills requires mathematical skills.
5. GEOMETRY:
Placing picture on a wall and making certain, they are hanging straight takes
some knowledge of geometry.
6. PLAYING THE ODDS: Some people who play the lottery use mathematical skills to try to
determine the probability of their winning the jackpot.
Conclusively, mathematics is important in our day to day activities. It
is essential in public decision-making and for participation in the knowledge
economy.
